1) HOLOSUN HS510C Red Dot Sight
- Best Value For Your Money
- Versatile - Three Reticle Options
- Great Durable For All Weather Conditions
- Larger Optic - Can Take Up More Rail Space
Holosun has been making solid optics for years. Ever since I tested the HS407k and 507k red dots I’ve known that Holosun makes premium sights. After testing all 5 of these optics I thought the HS510C was a clear winner.
For me, there were a few things that made this Holosun optic stand out. The large viewing window was a major plus in my opinion. I prefer to have a large lens that doesn’t obstruct my field of view. For short and medium-range shooting, the large viewing window minimizes obstructions and improves situational awareness.
My favorite feature of the HS510C was the reticle pattern adjustability. Being able to toggle between 3 different dot options (2 MOA dot, 65 MOA Circle, or both). I personally run the 65 MOA circle with 2 MOA dot. This gives me a great combination of faster target acquisition at close range and precise accuracy from medium range. Plus the 10 daylight and 2 night vision compatible settings make this one of the most adjustable optics on the market. But make sure you know how to turn off holosun red dot sight!
The only real drawback for me was the optic size. If you are only looking for the smallest and lightest red dot optic there are better choices than the HS510C.
2) EOTech XPS2 Red Dot Sight
- Versatile Reticle - 68MOA ring w/ 1 MOA Dot
- Good In All Lighting - 20 Brightness Settings
- Great Warranty
- Not Night Vision Compatible
Whenever I create a roundup of the very best scope & sights EOTech is near the top. The XPS & EXPS optics are two of their premier optics. If you’re looking for a red dot for a 300 Blackout it is hard to go wrong with the EOTech XPS2.
In my opinion, the XPS2 and HS510c are very comparable in price and performance wise. I was a big fan of the 68 MOA circle with a single 1 MOA dot. This setup is perfect for optimizing your close and medium-range shooting accuracy.
The XPS2 is extremely durable. As far as I’m concerned this optic is pretty much indestructible. The fully multi-coated lenses are great for light transmission & the thick housing makes it almost impossible to damage this lens.
Plus, I love that they found a way to improve the battery life on the XPS2 compared to models in years past. A single charge should last a few years on medium to low settings. The only drawback I found during this test was that it’s not night vision compatible. But considering I’m not a Navy SEAL this isn’t a game changer for me.
3) Vortex Strikefire II Red Dot Sight
- Adjustable - Red or Green Dot
- 10 Brightness Settings
- Lightweight Design
- Larger Optic - Occupies Rail Space
Vortex optics is probably the most well-known optic manufacturer in the game today. It’s hard to beat the bargain prices Vortex offers over the competition. The Vortex Strikefire II is a solid optic that I just couldn’t leave off this list.
I’ll start off by saying this is one of the bigger 300 Blackout optics. So I totally understand that it won’t be for everyone. In my opinion, the size makes it one of the top red dot optics for M&P 15 rifles and other similar weapons.
The 10 different brightness settings made it super easy for me to adjust the dot intensity. This makes it very easy to adjust the reticle to match the lighting conditions.
One of the biggest issues I had with the Vortex Strikefire is there is no shake awake feature. Many of the top optics today have shake awake & I would hope Votex incorporates it into the next Crossfire model.
4) TRIJICON MRO 1×25 Red Dot Sight
- Lighting Fast Target Acquisition
- Highly Durable In All Conditions
- Crystal Clear Lens Quality
- Not The Cheapest Option
- Not For Beginners
Trijicon ACOG scopes helped them earn their reputation as a top optic manufacturer. But their SRO and RMR sights along with the MRO have established Trijicon as a top red dot manufacturer.
I have to say that I love American-made products. Trijicon is one of the only optic manufacturers that makes 100% of their products in the USA. For some of you that won’t be a huge deal, but for me, it’s a huge plus.
The MRO is known to have crystal clear lens quality. I really haven’t seen such high-quality glass since I tested the Primary Arms prism scope a few months back. The only real downside I could find was the price tag. Trijicon optics are top-class quality, but they are not the cheapest.
5) SIG SAUER ROMEO5 1×25 MM Red Dot Sight
- Great Adjustability - 10 illumination settings
- Fair Price Tag
- Rugged Design - Waterproof & Fog-Proof
- Not Great For Astigmatism - No Green Dot Option
SIG SAUER makes top-quality optics for reasonable price tags. The price tag of the SIG SAUER Romeo 5 is hard to beat. If you’re shopping on a tight budget this is the perfect 300 Blackout scope.
In fact, I actually rated this optic to be one of the best price-friendly pistol red dots on the market today. There is not much to complain about. This is a great tactical scope with unlimited eye relief & is parallax free.
About 1/3rd of people have an eye condition called Astigmatism. I wish the Romeo 5 also came with a green dot option because it is more visible to people with this eye condition. Although I personally run a red colored dot on my 300 Blackout, I love to have the adjustability. But be careful, there are a lot of fake sig romeo 5 red dots out there. Always buy from verified sellers!
What’s Unique About .300 Blackout?
Originally the .300 Blackout was created primarily as a cartridge to be used in the AR-15 platform for hunting and self-defense purposes. Obviously, it runs on 300 blackout ammo which you can get just about anywhere. However, we know today that the 300 Blackout is great for several reasons.
- Its advantage over other cartridges is that it offers a wider range of projectile choices,
- Perfect for home defense or use on indoor ranges.
- Used by military and law enforcement personnel who need the benefits of both subsonic and supersonic rounds in one weapon system.
How We Rate Products Like This
Each product we review goes through extensive testing & examinations. Here are the criteria we use when reviewing any red dot sight. There are many factors that go into making a quality optic, these are some of the most important.
Durability
Durability is very important on an optic. They have to endure intense vibrations, water, mud, and the occasional drop. A red dot that cracks easily or is not water-resistant will soon turn into a problem.
Adjustability
Adjustability is important for red dots. I want a sight that gives you the flexibility to adjust the dot size and brightness. Some sights even let you choose between red or green dots, depending on your specific needs. Adjustability is the key to having an optic that can work in just about any situation.
Price
Shopping is always a factor no what I am shopping for. There are great red dot optics at just about all price ranges. I always compare the pricing of each optic to its completion to ensure that customers get value for their money.
Difficulty To Zero
After buying a new red dot sight, the first thing you need to do is sight in your optic. Some red dots are easier than others to zero. I always check the windage and elevation turrets on optics to make adjustments can be made.
