Best Henry H001 Sights: How to Choose & How To Install Guide!

The Henry H001 is a “western-style” .22 action rifle. It is a lever-action weapon and one of the most popular ones out there at the moment. And my gosh, with its low price, it’s no wonder it’s one of the most popular. It’s almost 50% of the price of similar weapons. 50%! And there’s a way you can make this rifle even better: Henry H001 sights.

It has a walnut stock which manufacturers normally reserve for more expensive weapons. In addition to its appealing look, it also brandishes a sense of historical quality. With its silky-smooth operation and large loop level, it’s often a favorite of people with large hands or those cold-embracing souls that embark out into the world with gloves.

The standard length of this rifle is 34 inches with the barrel measuring in at 16 1/8 inches. It also has a side ejection port, a hooded front sight, and a fully adjustable rear sight. Even though it’s a great weapon right out of the box, installing a better sight is still a valuable option. After testing many sights, I determined Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 was the best henry 22 lever action scope.

1) Bushnell Trophy TRS-25

Users can install this sight on any Picatinny Mount within seconds. It has 11 different settings for adjusting the brightness of the dot (which is LED) and 3-MOA for precision shot placement. This sight was specifically developed for hunting, but it can also be enjoyed in recreational plinking as well. It weighs about 4 ounces, has a lens diameter of 25mm, and has an overall length of approximately 2.4 inches.

Bushnell used O rings to make this sight waterproof. Not that you’ll probably ever need to, but you could submerge it in water completely and it would still be just fine. Parallax is 50[1]https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/publications/Mag-Patrol-Scopes-AR_0114-508_0.pdf. This sight was built with shockproof construction so it can withstand bumps, bangs, and drops.

It’s also filled with nitrogen to prevent fogging. This is an effective method that helps me use the sight when the temperature changes dramatically or when it is cold outside. Overall, the Trophy TRS-25 is one of the best Henry H001 replacement sights.

How long does the battery last?

The battery can last up to 3,000+ hours depending on which brightness level it’s operated on. Some smaller optics, like the best red dot sights for Browning Buckmark, are smaller and last longer. However, 3,000 + hours is more than enough in my opinion.

Is there an auto off feature?

No, there is no auto off feature. You don’t want to drain the battery, so it’s recommended that you turn it off when it’s not in use.

Where is this sight is made?

Bushnell sights are made overseas, but the company has strict quality control procedures in place so their products are very well made.

Does a riser come with the package?

No, there is no riser in the package. This may be something some owners will want to purchase separately.

Who this is for: Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 is perfect for hunters who need a nitrogen-filled sight built with supreme quality and a 3-MOA. If you’re curious, check our our post on the difference between 3 MOA vs 6 MOA sights.

Why I like it:  I like this sight because it is packed full of features all while hitting the mark in combining both quality and price.

2) Barska AC10380 Plinker-22

We’re mixing it up on you here because a Barska AC10380 Plinker is actually a scope rather than a sight– but a great accessory for your Henry H001 nonetheless. This scope allows you to zoom in with a magnification between 3x and 9x. If you know how to adjust your scope, it can be a very versatile tool! It weighs a little under 12 ounces and is approximately 12 inches long. Each click adjusts the MOA by 1/4. The diameter of the tube is 1 inch, and it has fully coated lenses.

This scope is constructed out of steel, and its objective lens is 32 mm.  Enthusiasts can even use this scope for shotguns or handguns.  It includes a crosshair reticle 30/30. And similar to the first sight we reviewed, this scope is also shockproof, fogproof, and waterproof. It’s also compatible with a dovetail rail and even comes with two standard 3/8″ inch rings.

It has a knob to adjust both the windage and elevation. The manufacturer includes rings (as mentioned above), cloth for wiping the lens, and also scope caps for protecting the lens when it’s not being used. Installation was also pretty easy as I was able to install this scope on my Henry H001 in less than 5 minutes.

Can it be used on air rifles?

Yes, if you want, you can install it on air rifles as long as they are compatible. In fact, most of the best pellet gun scopes are also compatible with air rifles as well.

Can I install it on Marlin Model 60 rail?

Yes, it can be installed on this type of weapon as well. The standard package includes all of the needed elements for installation on the Marlin Model 60 rail. Just remember, making modifications on the Henry H001 is different than many other weapons. There are many differences in different types of weapons that can make things tricky. For example, adjusting glock rear sights is different than adjusting Henry H001 sights!

Does this scope have eye focus?

Most definitely! This scope has an eye focus that is both fast and reliable[2]https://www.dnr.sc.gov/magazine/articles/julyaug2013/cannotsee.html.

What is the lens diameter?

The objective lens is 32mm in diameter while the tube diameter is 1 inch.

Who this is for: This scope would be a great addition to hunters and enthusiasts’ Henry H001s.

Why I like it: This model checks a lot of boxes with its various features. I like it for a number of reasons, but here are the main ones: adjustable magnification, lens diameter, and its 30/30 crosshair reticle.

3) Williams FP-AG Receiver Peep Sight

We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no additional cost to you. Thank you for supporting us - we really appreciate it!

This sight has to be covered in large part due to its adjustability. There are windage and elevation adjustment options and all of them work on a click-based system. This is the most accurate and appealing option of the bunch. Adjusting the sight to your desired preference can have a massively positive effect on your shooting accuracy.

The sight is made in the United States by Williams Gun Sight Co. The quality is first-rate, and I wasn’t able to find any drawbacks with its overall construction. This one is also (and only) suitable for dovetail mounts, and installing it is relatively simple. Check out our list of the best qd scope mount before making a purchase.

The aperture is 1. There are two diameters. The outside one is 3/8″ while the inner (peep size) comes in at .093 inches. This aperture is ideal for quick removal and installation. This sight is heavy-duty and has a blue-black finish. You’ll feel comfortable taking it with you into the harshest conditions. If you are looking to make some Henry H001 upgrades, consider this sight made by Williams Gun Sight Co.

Can it be installed on Remington 760?

Unfortunately, no, you can’t install this henry 22 lever action scope on this type weapon because it isn’t compatible.

Does this sight have target knobs to adjust it?

Yes, and they are built in a way that makes adjusting the sight extremely easy.

Can it be used for competition shooting?

Meh, not really. This type of competition doesn’t allow an aperture so you won’t be able to use it. Might have to check out another option if competition shooting is your jam. When it comes to competition shooting, I tend to pick from the scopes listed in our post on the best red dot sights for AR-15 with fixed front sight. They just seem to work better for competition shooting.

Who this is for: The sight is made for people who need a simple and fully adjustable sight.

Why I like it: It’s hard to beat the simplicity and accuracy this little gem of a sight provides. In a world that seemingly gets more chaotic on a daily basis, it’s nice to experience something so simple and well-made.

4) TRUGLO Traditional 30mm Red-Dot Sight

I had a great time testing this sight in the wild thanks in large part to its adjustability (windage and elevation).  In addition to its adjustability, it also has 5MOA which gives this sight a lot of adaptability as well. Most models also come with the flip-up lens cap with lanyard system. These flip up caps actually reminded me of my Aimpoint T2 and M5 sights. And if you don’t like the lanyard system, guess what! There’s a standard lens cap option available as well.

The red dot reticle on this bad boy is bright which gives you the chance to acquire your target very fast. This sight uses a 3v-Cr2032 battery. Pending what type of mileage you put it through, this battery has the ability to last for years. It’s 1″ x 1″ x 1″ (L x W x H) and weighs only 0.44 pounds. By the way, the magnification is 1x and the objective lens comes in at 30mm.

This sight has two main options that users can choose between:  1) a matte black finish or 2) a camo option. In testing both of them, the functionality was identical, so it will all come down to what your personal preference is. These types of sights use a weaver-style system for installation. I love the weaver-style system because it makes it installation extremely easy on most weapons, including your Henry H001! TruGlo also makes fantastic pistol sites like the Truglo tfx vs tfo, which can be great for smaller firearms.

Why does the front lens look like it at an angle?

Well, this is due to the design of the inner part of the sight.  But don’t worry, this is perfectly normal as all of them are built with this characteristic.

What about riser? Is there one included in the package?

Unfortunately, no, a riser comes in this package. This will be something you need to add separately.

Is it suitable for an AR and 4x magnifier?

Oh yeah, this sight is suitable for this type of setup without any issues. The installation should be straightforward.

Can it be installed on a 22 caliber, pellet weapon?

Sure, there isn’t a technical reason why you shouldn’t be able to install it on a .22 caliber assuming the weapon is compatible. Go for it if that’s what you want!

Who is it for: It’s a great option for everyone looking for a high-quality sight that comes with a 30mm lens objective and 5MOA red dot.

Why I like it: I’m a sucker for the camo version of this model because it looks so clean. I’m also a big fan of the accuracy and the flip-up lanyard cap system.

5) CVLIFE 3-9×40 Optics R4 Reticle Crosshair Scope

We’re rocking along now, and thanks for staying on this journey with me. Next up we have the CVLIFE 3-9X40 scope[3]https://www.cvlife.com/pages/about-us. You fanatics out there know that this scope comes with 3-9x magnification, that it’s adjustable, and that it comes with a lens diameter of 40mm. This one took a little extra work as I had to find a rail that fit my Henry H001 in order to install this scope. Once I was able to get that little detail square away, the installation was smooth and simple. Sighting in was also easy with this scope. Its accuracy at 25 yards is impressive (I noticed a spread of about 1-inch). Just as a heads up, most ranges cap you out at 25 yards maximum with this weapon/scope combination. I definitely wouldn’t consider CVLIFE to be one of the best spotting scope for elk hunting, but from close range, it works just fine.

The length of this scope is 12.20 inches with an exit pupil of 0.2. Light transmission clocks in at 95% which is extremely high (and beneficial!). And you might notice a recurring theme here, but: it is also immune to fog, low temperatures, and water. It uses power ting for magnification adjustment, and the designers did a great job as I found it extremely intuitive.

The scope is filled with nitrogen and has a smart-design special inner and outer structure that makes adjusting it a breeze. Said differently, the reticle stays in place when you’re adjusting the scope. And the manufacturer definitely didn’t skimp out on its construction as it was built with sturdy 1-inch machined aluminum.

Can it be installed on a .22 air rifle?

Yes, of course, you can install it on a .22 air rifle. Just make sure that the weapon is compatible and follow the instructions that are provided in the package.

How about on a 1-inch rail? Can I install it on a 1-inch rail?

Yes, you shouldn’t have any problems installing it on this type of setup.

Is there a brightness adjustment?

Nope, unfortunately, you can’t adjust the brightness on this scope. You will see the reticle all the time since you can’t turn it off. It doesn’t come with an on/off switch.

Who this is for: This is for the people out there who want a powerful scope to use on their Henry H001 (in order to replace those old and cold iron sights).

Why I like it: I always get excited about the accuracy of a scope, and this one is no exception. The other impressive things that I enjoyed about it was the 3-9x magnification and the exit pupil size.

6) NcStar 1 (Scopemount)

We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no additional cost to you. Thank you for supporting us - we really appreciate it!

How can you install your scope on a weapon? Well, you need scope mounts. For this purpose, I discovered these NcSTAR units work perfectly[4]https://www.ncstar.com/company-info/about-us/. They weigh about 3 ounces with a 1-inch ring and are about 1.7 inches long. They currently only come in sleek-looking black.

In essence, this is a RB25 model that is designed for various scopes and weapons with a dovetail rail system. Installation for this one is relatively simple. All you need to do is undo the 2 screws (on each mount) on the side, clip it in place, and put back the screws. There’s a plate that will catch the rail and stay in place. Voila! Now I wouldn’t try installing this mount on KSG sights, but for a regular or air rifle you should be fine.

Once the mounts are installed, the scope will then need to be installed. Don’t forget to adjust it or your accuracy will suffer!

I’m recommending these mounts as there are a number of advantages with them. They’re well-made and can accommodate most scopes for your Henry H001. And boy are they durable! If you take care of your stuff, it’s not unrealistic that you will be able to use these for a decade or more!

How long can these last?

They are well-made and strong so they can last for years. Thanks to the 2-screws-per-mount design, they are extremely durable. Investing in NcStar scope rings is well worth it and one of the easiest Henry H001 upgrades to make.

Do I need an Allen wrench?

Yes, an Allen wrench is needed for the installation and removal. If you don’t have one, go to the nearest hardware store and get one.

Can I install them on Daisy 880?

Yes, you can install these in Daisy 880. Should be an easy installation on this type of Daisy.

Will the mounts fit Marlin 795?

Of course. The mounts will fit perfectly and the installation only requires Allen wrench.

Who this is for: Everyone who wants to mount a scope on a dovetail weapon will be doing good to use these types of rings.

Why I like it: I like the strength of the mounts and the 2 screw design which has a positive effect on durability and accuracy.

Buyer’s guide for Henry H001 sights

henry h001 sights

In order to get the best accuracy, you need the best sight. Henry H001 is a great rifle and it has been with us for a long time. I have been hunting with it for months now. But, don’t forget to choose a proper sight wisely. First, I believe you need to decide between a red dot sight or a scope. With its versatility, both can be installed on this weapon. A scope is ideal for long-distance targets while red dots are more preferable for close-range targets. Red dot sights come with fixed magnification while scopes usually have adjustable magnification. That’s why I use red dot sights for turkey hunting each year.

Your sight probably needs to be filled with nitrogen. This makes it usable when there is fog and the weather is bad, and it keeps the image quality at the highest level.

The adjustability of red dot sights is mandatory. You need to have the ability to control elevation and windage. These can have a huge impact on your shooting, and it’s something I’ve been adjusting everytime I go out hunting these days.

How to adjust Henry H001 sights?

If you have iron sights, adjusting can be a bit time-consuming. Take a test shot and aim to the center. If the bullet hits the target above the center, lower down the rear sight or lift the front sight up. If the bullet hits left from the center, move the rear sight to the right side. The front should be moved to the opposite side. Move one sight at a time.

Scopes and red dot sights like EOTech should be adjusted using the adjustment turrets and the screws on them. Make sure they are lined and perfectly straight when doing this. If they’re not, you’re going to experience a lot of unnecessary headache during your sight-in process.
