What Is The Holosun 507c?
- Small & Compact Design
- Multiple Reticle Options
- Very Long Battery Life
- Used Almost Exclusively On Pistols
The Holosun 507C pistol optics forms part of the more extensive Holosun red dot series. It is an ideal red dot for medium to full-size pistol applications. Providing a rugged design with some excellent features. In fact, this is the red dot I used in my comparison of the Holosun hm3x vs hm3xt magnifiers!
What Is The Holosun 507k?
- Highly Durable Red Dot
- Great Adjustability - 12 Brightness Settings
- Clear Lens Quality
- Smaller Field of View Than 507c
- No Solar Power
This red dot sight is a more simplistic red dot version of the HS507C, as it doesn’t feature a solar panel. The Holosun HS507K is a smaller sight than the HS507C, and is an ideal option if the user application is for concealed carry.
Main Differences Between Holosun 507k vs 507c
1) Quality Construction
Both these sights have the same quality construction parameters set out by Holosun. They are equally matched in terms of material, both are made from aircraft grade 7075-T6 Aluminum and have an anodized finish. Holosun makes top quality products & I saw that again in my comparison of the 508t & 507c red dots.
The HS507K has a more angular, square top design compared to the more bread loaf, rounded top shape design of the HS507C. These sights are equally matched in terms of quality construction.
2) Lens & Reticle Options
Both these sights have the same lens and reticle features. The lens is made from multicoated reflective glass, ensuring maximum glare reduction while allowing efficient light transmission. The sights are also scratch resistant to enhance their durability.
As an upgrade from the HS407 series, the HS507 series features Holosun’s Multiple reticle system (MRS), available in red and green reticles. The MRS is a system that enables you to switch between three MOA reticle options based on the situation you find yourself in. Be sure to read up about what does moa mean on a red dot. The reticle options are:
- Circle Dot Reticle – 2 MOA dot surrounded by a 32 MOA ring (The flagship reticle option allows both speed and precision)
- 2 MOA dot (small targets at greater distances)
- 32 MOA Ring Reticle – 32 MOA ring with no center dot (shoot faster)
Both sights have 12 brightness settings, 10 daylight and 2 night vision. This adjustability stood out when I compared the Venom vs HS 507c red dots. The brightness settings are versatile, allowing an optimal clear sight picture even in the brightest and dimmest ambient lighting conditions. You can simply switch between the extensive selection of brightness settings using the easy to use buttons located on the side of the red dot.
They also have a brightness lock mode feature, enabling you to lock your favorite brightness setting so that when the sight is turned on via the shake awake technology, it will automatically load onto the brightness setting it is locked to.
The HS507K has an objective window size of 0.58×0.77 in, and the HS507C, measures 0.63×0.91 in. Thus, the Holosun 507K has a smaller window than the 507C. The HS507K and HS507C are parallax-free and provide unlimited eye relief.
The sights are similarly matched in terms of lens and reticle options. The only huge difference is with window size, the larger objective sight window size of the HS507C makes it the winner, as it gives a larger field of view, allowing for faster target acquisition. This is another reason that I rated the 507c as the Best Hellcat Optic from my testing.
3) Battery Life Comparison
The HS507K and HS507C use a standard CR1632 Lithium battery, easily replaceable from a side battery compartment. They are rated to last up to an impressive 50,000 hours on setting 6.
They both have shake awake technology, a great feature for saving battery life. The sight automatically switches off after a period of not detecting motion. When motion is detected, the sight will then automatically switch back on. The only difference is that the HS507C has a backup power source from a solar panel. You can also use the HS507C on the solar setting so that the battery life can last even longer. Battery life was also a determining factor when I compared the 407k vs 507k red dots in my testing.
4) Size and Footprint Comparison
These two sights were designed for different purposes, thus their size differs as well as their footprint.
The HS507K is designed as a red dot for CCW, and it works great for just that. It has a size of 1.6×0.98×0.95 in and weighs 1 ounce. The Holosun 507K has a Shield rmsc footprint, the standard footprint used for small, compact pistols. There are many different RMSC footprint red dots which will also work for this footprint.
The 507C is a larger red dot and is used on larger pistols than the HS507K. The size of the 507C is 1.78×1.15×1.15 in, and its weight is 1.5 ounces. The 507C uses the RMR footprint, the common footprint used for larger pistols.
5) Price Comparison
Holosun optics are priced very competitively in their specific market categories, and the 507C and 507K are no different. The 507C is a bit more expensive, which is understandable considering it is larger in size and has the solar panel feature. You can expect to pay a bit more for the green reticle.
6) Toughness Test
Holosun sights are some of the toughest on the market, they are made to survive almost anything you could throw at them. Both the HS507C and HS507K are built to withstand pistol recoil in their respective pistol size categories. The sights feature a shockproof capability of up to 5000G and are IP67 waterproof rated. This is why I rated Holosun as the Best Browning Buckmark Optics that I tested.
Even though the solar panels of the HS507C are well protected and recessed into the sight, collision can still break them, so that is one thing to consider. The windage and elevation turrets, as well as the lock mode button, are recessed into the sight, to ensure that they are well protected from potential impact. The toughness challenge between the Holosun 507K vs 507C is pretty close, however the 507K wins this one. It is slightly more durable because it doesn’t feature solar panels – which means one less thing that might break.
7) Optic Accessories
To summarize, both these sights feature:
- Stay awake tech
- The multiple reticle system
- A side battery compartment
The 507C also features a backup power source with its built-in solar panel.
The purchase includes 1x CR1632 battery, a lens cloth, and a user manual. In addition to this, the 507C also comes with a T10 L Key for adjusting the mount.
Best Use Cases For These Optics
The 507K is a small, compact red dot optic, making it ideal for concealed carry. It comes with the Shield RMS footprint, so it will work perfectly for your Springfield Hellcat or Canik TP9SF. If you want to know more about the best red dot sights available for the Hellcat, you can do so here, and for the Canik, here. If you’d like to put in the links for the other two articles Liam.
The 507C is excellent as a medium-sized red dot optic. It is versatile in its application, perfect for pistols and shotguns, competing with the Vortex Venom and the Trijicon RMR.
Which Red Dot Is Best?
If you are looking for a red dot to use with compact to subcompact pistols, then the 507K is the better option.
However, my personal preference is the 507C, for $30 extra, you get a larger field of view and a solar backup system, which can be crucial in a life-or-death situation.
